CHALLENGE

THE JOURNEY

Founded in 1910 Artarmon Public School has grown and developed over 100 plus years. With enrolment at approx. 1080 which has grown significantly in recent years, the school was in great need of new buildings and facilities to accommodate their growing student population.

The overflow of students lead to demountable teaching spaces being utilised on the site which needs to be upgraded to facilitate improved teaching practices in appropriate facilities.

THE SOLUTION

THE SOLUTION

Designed by Collard Maxwell Architects, a new 3 storey building incorporating 21 future focused teaching spaces and library was planned.

The new space incorporated designated spaces for special programs, a library, shared learning spaces, and withdrawal rooms, along with homebase rooms.

Business Interiors was contracted by Lahey Constructions to complete the furniture fitout, and provide technology solutions consisting of interactive whiteboards installed in each homebase room.

The fitout was completed in December 2017, ready to be occupied for the start of the 2018 school year.

THE RESULT

THE RESULT

The result has provided facilities for a new standard of education at Artarmon Public School. The creation of contemporary learning environments facilitating a more agile method of teaching. Using furniture and technology to accommodate varying styles of classes and enhancing education.

The space was designed to be naturally comfortable through the use of good cross ventilation and natural light. The furniture utilised supports the schools goal of creating a welcoming learning environment, with a combination of moveable ottomans and lounging furniture, breakout spaces to accommodate small or large groups of students.

The interactive whiteboards supplied to each homebase room allow interactive learning with multi-touch capability and pre-installed learning apps.

The NSW Government’s investment in new fit for purpose facilities for our children will reap rewards far into the future.
