Deakin University’s Warrnambool location is a friendly, close-knit community, hallmarked by a personal and informal relationship between students and staff. In 2012, the institution elected to transition to a new site, requiring a furniture fit-out and interior design for three very different spaces.

CHALLENGE

CHALLENGE

Business Interiors was tasked with finding a furniture solution for a function centre to hold 100 people, a small office space for seven staff, and a drop-in centre to service the Deakin University local students.

The brief was simply that the finished environment should reflect an atmosphere that is warm and inviting for students and staff alike, with a preference for natural tones.

In addition, Deakin University avidly ensures that it applies and upholds environmental sustainability principles in their master planning, design standards and major construction projects. As such, Business Interiors was expected to aspire to a 5 Star (Green Star or equivalent) standard in the interior design and fit-out of the Warrnambool building.

THE RESULT

THE RESULT

Our Business Interiors project consultant was able to showcase what products and interior designs would work best, to the approval of the Deakin University team. The end result lends a French Provincial flavour that is warm, charming and stylish, blending seamlessly with the building’s original façade. The look was achieved specifically through careful product selection, paying particular attention to finishes and fabrics.

To achieve the University’s sustainability goals, much of the seating, including the 100 conference chairs, utilised eco-wool from a supplier chosen for their range of eco-friendly fabrics.
